Café Roso

Hello Travelers!

Today we are very excited to tell you about our latest culinary discovery in Costa Rica.

A few weeks ago, through social networks we learned of the recent opening of a cafe in the province of Heredia in Costa Rica, so we decided to take a drive and visit them because as you know, we love discovering new places that radiates passion for food and good times.

Café Roso was our destination.

Arriving at this cafe the first thing that caught our attention without even having entered, was its design... the owners have a very clear idea that the first impression is extremely important!

Already inside, minimalist, simple and cozy designs were the factors that made us fall in love with the place.

Café Roso specializes in artisan and high quality organic food, which, as you know, is music to our ears!

Here we tell you all about our visit to this new Cafe...

THE MENU

The menu at Café Roso is small and simple but without losing sight of the quality of their food. There you will find options such as sandwiches, salads, toasts (a type of bruschetta), soups, sweet and salty pastries, smoothies made with fresh fruits and of course high quality coffee to please everyone's taste.

WHAT WE ORDERED

Avocado and Mushrooms Toast

Everything starts with a slice of sourdough bread 100% vegan, on which they place fresh cheese and a guacamole type spread, topped off with a generous portion of fresh cremini mushrooms sautéed in olive oil and herbs.

This clearly shows that simple dishes well executed will always be a winning choice ... the combination of flavors and the chef’s technique truly made us feel that this was the perfect start of a great meal.

Squash Soup

This dish left us very surprised, because this soup is anything but the typical Squash Soup, they give it an interesting and playful twist by adding curry and turmeric, which gave it a flavor that evoked the Middle East, while maintaining the rich distinctive flavor of squash, they managed to make a simple soup into a refined and comforting appetizer.

Quinoa Salad

When we saw this salad on the menu, we immediately had to order it ... and it did not disappoint, it was extremely delicious! The salad consists of a generous amount of Quinoa, Avocado, Cherry Tomato, Basil and Chives, all that bathed with a delicious homemade dressing of your choice. We opted for the olive oil, garlic and rosemary dressing.

This delicious salad is presented in a nice dark colored deep dish that enhances the colors flawlessly, it really is one of those salads in which each and every one of its ingredients complement each other perfectly achieving a fresh and delicious dish.

Chicken and Pesto Sandwich

A juicy shredded chicken seasoned to perfection, arugula, tomato and a delicious pesto, as expected it’s homemade, all that inside a delicious sour dough bread, sounds good, don’t you think?

On the side they serve some delicious and varied chips to give the dish a bit of a crunch... just delicious!

All these amazing dishes had us so hypnotized that we didn’t want this meal to end.

The Drinks

To cool off from the typical heat of Heredia, we ordered 2 smoothies, one was the "Tropicalito" a delicious blend of fresh organic pineapple, coconut milk, coconut water and ice ... the second smoothie was the "Pura Vida " it had strawberry, blackberry, lemon, watermelon, chia seeds and of course some ice.

Both drinks were a perfect match to accompany our meal.

Coffee and Pastry

We could not finish this "feast" without trying the coffee and pastries.

Café Roso features two coffee types "honey roast" and organic from the prestigious Costa Rica producer Café Sikëwa, which bases its production on growing and roasting coffee beans of export quality, top notch Costa Rican coffee.

If you haven’t tried this brand, we highly recommend that you do.

They offer sweet and salty pastries, all made with love and passion, with quality ingredients.

During our visit we had the opportunity to talk a little bit with Amanda and Jose Pablo, who are siblings and owners of Café Roso. They tell us that they were surrounded by the coffee culture since childhood, because they come from a family of coffee producers.

Jose Pablo shares that one of the most beautiful childhood memories they have are of them going to their grandparents' house and spending the afternoon with family drinking coffee, memories that now as adults have led them to want to share that love for coffee with others.

The name Café Roso, as we are told, was born in honor of the union of their grandparents last names, Rodriguez - Soto.

As we continue the conversation, we realize the amount of passion behind this cafe, not only for the use of organic and environment friendly products, but also by the social consciousness they get involve in.

They have join major global initiatives to help those in need, with programs like " Pending Coffee", which consists in paying for one or more cups of coffee while visiting the café and leaving it there for people who can’t afford it and "Blessing bags," they encourage visitors to donate can goods or clothing that are then placed in bags and delivered to the needy.

Definitely a great example to follow!

A super important fact that pet lovers will adore, is that Roso Café is Pet Friendly, they even offer bowls for water and food, so bring your pet along too!

In the near future they will offer live music and books so that everyone who so desires can read while sipping a delicious cup of coffee.

Café Roso really surprised us, not only for its cuisine and beautiful place, but also for the good vibes that each of the people in this cafe radiates, they really live up to their slogan ... Green, Simple and with Soul.

We want to thank Amanda, Jose Pablo and Chef Daniela for taking a bit of their time to sit down with us and share the story of this incredible project, we wish you all the best of luck!
